Course DescriptionFoundation Skills: The five core foundation skills of reading, writing, oral communication, numeracy and learning have been embedded into the units of competency in this Training Package. Additionally, employment skills (the non-technical skills and knowledge necessary for effective participation in the workforce) have also been embedded. These employment skills are problem-solving, initiative and enterprise, teamwork, planning and organising, self-management and technology. Technical Skills: This program is designed to give Year 11 and 12 school students the skills required to measure business viability. The Nationally Accredited Certificate covers a range of operational practices necessary to research a micro business environment. This course is designed for people intending to open their own micro business in the near future or pathway to business management.. Students will be required to develop a business idea from concept to implementation readiness. Students will work with the same business idea throughout the program, investigating, developing and planning for its eventual launch. The business concept could be the participants own or one suggested by the course facilitator. This course is divided into a series of 5 integrated building blocks: Building Block 1: Business ideas and investigation Building Block 2: Constraints and obligations Building Block 3: Practical business promotion strategies Building Block 4: Knowing your numbers – financial planning Building Block 5: Launching your micro business This course will consist of special guest speakers, study tour and presentations by inspirational local business owners. Capabilities; Students undertaking this course would want to start their own business within the near future, whether that be before or after formal training. Strong written and research skills will be an asset.

Entry RequirementsThere are no prerequisites for this course however, students need to come with a business idea or favoured area/industry. Students undertaking this course would want to start their own business within the near future, whether that be before or after formal training. Strong written and research skills will be an asset.
Other RequirementsStudents must bring all the required stationary and a 4GM USB stick to every session. Students will need to bring their own Laptop or collect one from the PGHS library before the session.

Cost NotesDepartment for Education Non-NASSSA students enrolling will incur a $250.00 additional Administration fee (Full year course – pro rata for semester/term courses). Non-Department for Education students enrolling will incur a $1,000.00 administration fee. (Full year course – pro rata for semester/term courses) Enrolments for both these groups of students MUST be done through the WebVET Administrator.
