DescriptionDevelop skills and knowledge in this course in workplace health and safety (WHS) procedures, environmental work practice, planting, recognising plants, maintaining irrigation systems, pruning, treating weeds, pests and diseases, basic soil properties, renovating grassed areas, tending to nursery plants, machinery and equipment operation and maintenance. Provides students with the basic knowledge and skills required to work within the Horticulture Industry.
PathwaysPossible job titles relevant to this qualification include Horticulture Worker, Horticulture Assistant.
Entry RequirementsStudents should have a minimum satisfactory pass of Year 10 English. Students should have a genuine interest in developing skills and knowledge related to gardening and horticulture.
Other RequirementsStudents are expected to provide workboots, long pants, long sleeves and hat. Host school will provide PPE for chemical application (Chem suits, rubber boots, and chemical gloves).

This qualification provides skills in recognising plants, undertaking planting tasks, using correct pruning techniques and collecting plant specimens. To complete the qualification students required to complete all 5 core units and 10 elective units.
