DescriptionThis certificate in conjunction with Certificate 1 in Automotive provides students with greater opportunities for obtaining traineeships or apprenticeships within the Automotive Industry. The programme provides participants with knowledge, skills and understanding of essential automotive knowledge and workshop practices and is a good foundation for the broader range of occupations in the automotive industry. Safe working practices are taught throughout the course and the skills learnt are expected to be performed to industry standard and students are required to have these skills and their knowledge verified when they undertake workplacement. Competencies from Certificate l are reinforced throughout this course and students learn how to inspect and service braking systems, cooling systems, steering systems, suspension systems, engines, transmissions (manual and automatic), clutch systems and emission control systems. They also select automotive parts and products, test and repair basic electrical systems and service final drives (driveline) and service final drive assemblies and identify basic automotive faults using troubleshooting processes.
PathwaysThis program can lead to a wide range of work in the Automotive Pathway including; Automotive Mechanic (Light / Heavy Vehicles / Motor Cycle / Marine), Diesel Mechanic, Auto Electrician, Panel Beater, Spray painter, Vehicle Trimmer, Automotive Parts Interpreter, Vehicle or Parts Sales, Tire Fitter, Engine Reconditioning etc.. With further training and entry into university, this course could lead to Automotive Engineering.
