Course Description | Do you want to gain a job in a restaurant, hotel, motel, club, pubs, cafes and coffee shop? A great qualification for those wanting to gain employment in hospitality in Australia or around the world. This training will equip you with the skills to provide food and beverage to customers; deliver great customer service; participate in safe work practices; and prepare and serve espresso coffee.
Students must be willing to take instruction from the Trainer and Supervisors. They must also be prepared to undertake compulsory work placement in a restaurant, cafe, hotel, club, pub, cafes and coffee shops. (students are required to find their own work placements, but may be supported with suggestions by Trainers and the home school staff).
This course combines both theory and practical front-of-house (waiter/waitressing) skills.
Students will need to demonstrate their skills by participating in industry placement at a hospitality venue. Log book activities will be required to be completed during the industry placement to ensure that students have an opportunity to practice and demonstrate a range of skills. Students will undertake front of house activities in a simulated training restaurant environment, participate in role plays, and answer written and verbal assessment.
Students will be required to wear a uniform and participate in industry placement. |
Pathways | Students who complete the Certificate II in Hospitality may gain employment in positions such as Espresso Coffee Machine Operator, Food and Beverage Attendant, Restaurant Host, Waiter, Porter, Room attendant. After achieving the Certificate II in Hospitality, individuals could progress to SIT30616 Certificate III in Hospitality, or to Certificate III qualifications in other service industry fields. |
Entry Requirements | To meet the requirements of the VETRO application, students must demonstrate prior career planning evidence. For example, work experience. The course is developed for entry to employment or further education. |
Other Requirements | Regular attendance in class and ability to complete work on time is essential. Students must be prepared to complete work at home on self-paced activities. Students must be willing to participate in both theory and practical workshops. Students must wear black and white uniform for industry placement and simulated restaurant activities. Students to provide White Shirt and Black Pants and neat black safety shoes. |
Delivery Location(s) | Paralowie R-12 School, Whites Road, Paralowie, SA, 5108 Canteen provided. No leaving school grounds during the day. Normal school rules apply. |
Dates and Times | 30 weekly sessions at Paralowie R-12 School on Tuesdays from 08:30 until 15:30. Commencement date 08/02/22. This course will be finished by week beginning 25th October and excludes school holiday breaks or public holidays. |
Work Placement | 6 days 12 Service Periods out of which 4 service Periods to be finished in-house at the Salford College Restaurant Days and 8 Service Periods of Work placement that students are encouraged to organise in industry with the support of Salford College (if required). A standard service period (shift) is approximately 3-4 hours. (For example: Lunch Start 10:30am - Finish 2:30pm). |

This qualification is suitable for students who have an interest in hospitality or desire to pursue further studies or traineeship pathways in Hospitality.
** If a student has completed SIT20416 Certificate II in Kitchen Operations, they would have already completed 2 core competencies (Work effectively with others, & Participate in safe work practices). |
Training Cost | $150.00 including GST This course is a Flexible Industry Pathway (FIP) subsidised by the Department for Innovation and Skills.
The training cost of $150 includes text/ work books. |
Other Costs | None Students are required to purchase and wear their own black trousers/skirt and black enclosed shoes. Students are required to provide a white shirt, black pants and neat black shoes and wear these to training and practical restaurant days. This course will include 4 excursion and training days at Salford College restaurant – students are responsible for paying for their own public transport. |
Cost Notes | Department for Education Non-NASSSA students enrolling will incur a $50.00 additional Administration fee (Full year course – pro rata for semester/term courses). Non-Department for Education students enrolling will incur a $250.00 administration fee. (Full year course – pro rata for semester/term courses). This will provide the home school VET Leader access to WebVET. Enrolments for both these groups of students MUST be done through the WebVET Administrator. |

Orientation Details | Course orientation and induction occurs during the first training session by the trainer with host school VET Leader support. All home schools are required to conduct WorkPRO (or similar) prior to students commencing a course. |
