Course DescriptionAn entry level program designed as a foundation course for students interested in either working or volunteering with animals. Some work will be undertaken with animals in a sanctuary environment. There are a number of around tasks, a work placement and a variety of animals are always in the classroom.
PathwaysCertificate II or Certificate Ill skills cluster.
Entry RequirementsBasic literacy and numeracy is essential.
Other RequirementsStudents will be required to participate fully in all aspects of the course. They will need to dress appropriately for undertaking a range of animal care activities (includes respectable attire and appropriate footwear.) Students will be required to wear sturdy enclosed shoes, no long or acrylic nails or nail polish. Long hair must be tied back during practical work, no dangling jewellery can be worn and piercings may need to be removed or covered during practical's. Students must behave as they would in the workplace and model best practice, professional behaviour especially when undertaking work experience and other industry visits. Students are required to bring an exercise book and pen to every session. Regular attendance in class and ability to complete work on time is essential. Students must be prepared to complete work at home if required. The student must negotiate alternative submission dates as per RTO requirement, where they cannot meet due dates.

Dates and Times18 weekly sessions at TAFE SA Elizabeth on Tuesdays from 08:30 until 15:30.
Commencement date 06/02/24.
We anticipate there will be additional classes, Semester 1 classes may be run on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Semester 2 intake 2024 TBC. Students are not to leave NASC without approval. All courses will be finished by week 6, Term 4 (week beginning 18 November) and exclude school holiday breaks or public holidays. Training does not take place on public holidays and all other training day changes or 'catch up' offerings will be negotiated with the host school VET Leaders and shared with students in a timely manner.
Work Placement4 days
The qualification requires the equivalent of 4 days (20 hours) work placement in an approved animal care workplace - the course has been structured to ensure students are exposed to working in a real industry environment and will accumulate adequate experience. This will be negotiated with the student and the VET Leader of the students home school.

The training cost of $975 includes money for consumable used during the course for example, gloves, shoe covers etc.

Cost NotesDepartment for Education Non-NASSSA students enrolling will incur a $50.00 additional Administration fee (full year course - pro rata for semester/term courses). Non-Department for Education students enrolling will incur a $250.00 administration fee (full year course - pro rata for semester/term courses). This will provide the home school VET Leader access to WebVET. Enrolments for both these groups of students MUST be done through the WebVET Administrator. The host school will invoice home school of Non-NASSSA students who participate.

Selection ProcessPre-screening assessment or interviews will be conducted Thursday Nov 2nd week 3 to Friday Nov 10th week 4, Term 4.
Orientation DetailsCourse orientation and induction occurs during the first training session by the trainer with host school VET Leader support. All home schools are required to conduct WorkPRO prior to students commencing a course.
