Course DescriptionAn entry level program designed as a foundation course for students interested in either working or volunteering with animals. Some work will be undertaken with animals in a sanctuary environment. There are a number of group tasks, a work placement and a variety of animals are always in the classroom.
PathwaysPossible career pathways include: Veterinary Assistant, Pet Groomer, Park Ranger.
Entry RequirementsBasic numeracy and literacy is essential. Regular attendance in classes and ability to complete work on time. Ability and willingness to perform animal studies related tasks such as cleaning enclosures, restraining and lifting dogs, working on uneven terrain in extreme conditions. Students will be exposed to a range of animals including birds, cats, dogs, insects, spiders and snakes.
Other RequirementsStudents are required to bring an exercise book, a pen and USB to every session. Students are required to arrange their own work placement. Sturdy clothing and enclosed shoes, hats and sunscreen required for excursions. No loose jewellery or clothes. Short nails required (no acrylic nails).
