Course DescriptionThe Plumbing Industry has had a long history as one of the traditional trades areas. There are a number of well recognised areas of engagement: • Domestic • Commercial• Retail. Since plumbing is integrally linked with the Building and Construction Industry, there is a continuous demand for qualified Plumbers and associated Apprenticeship opportunities for young people. Completing this certificate can lead onto other areas of the Building and Construction Industry. Students will need to demonstrate their skills on and off site, completing both theory and practical components. Students will be involved in many activities including visits to worksites and working with new materials.
PathwaysThe course is developed for entry to employment or further education. This can lead onto specialised areas including; general plumbing, gas fitting, roof plumbing, mechanical services, fire protection. Other construction industry areas may also be pursued.
Entry RequirementsIt is recommended that students have successfully completed year 10 Mathematics and have an above basic understanding. To meet the requirements of the VETRO application, students must demonstrate prior career planning evidence. For example, work experiences.
Other RequirementsStudents must be willing to undertake both theory and practical components of the course. Basic stationery every lesson (Pens, Pencil, Ruler, Scientific Calculator etc.) PPE – Safety footwear, Long Trousers (Navy blue cotton drill), Long Sleeved top (High Visibility) for practical lessons.

Dates and Times36 weekly sessions at Paralowie R-12 School on Thursdays from 09:00 until 15:00.
Commencement date 10/02/22.
Regular attendance in class and ability to complete work on time is essential. Students must be prepared to complete work at home if required. All courses will be finished by week 6, Term 4 (week beginning 28 November) and exclude school holiday breaks or public holidays.

SACE DetailsSACE Stage 1, 45 SACE credits
344 Nominal Hours (45 Stage 1 Credits) will be completed in the first year. Further credits will be attracted in the second year. Actual credits granted to the student is dependent on the units of competency completed by the student toward the qualification.

VU23046 Apply basic sheet metal practices (50 nominal hours) will be commenced in the first year but not completed until the second year.
Training Cost$220.00 including GST
$220 is the ‘gap’ fee. This course is a Flexible Industry Pathway subsidised by the Department for Innovation and Skills (DIS).
Other Costs$100.00 including GST
Students must provide their own long trousers (Navy blue cotton drill) and steel cap boots (approx. cost $100).

HiVis shirts will be provided by PEER and safety glass will be supplied by Week 4, Term 1.
Cost NotesDepartment for Education Non-NASSSA students enrolling will incur a $50.00 additional Administration fee (Full year course – pro rata for semester/term courses). Non-Department for Education students enrolling will incur a $250.00 administration fee. (Full year course – pro rata for semester/term courses. Enrolments for both these groups of students MUST be done through the WebVET Administrator.

Orientation DetailsCourse orientation and induction occurs during the first training session by the trainer with host school VET Leader support. All home schools are required to conduct WorkPRO (or similar) prior to students commencing a course.
